Lets be honest, the material in this book has been covered before. Many times before. Does that mean you should ignore this book? Definitely not. Kyle Idleman has taken a topic that has been written about many times and breathed fresh life into it. He is able to balance humor and stories with solid Scriptural truth and it works very well.
This book is exceedingly practical. Each chapter deals with a different “god” who is warring over our affections. The three that hit me the hardest were the chapters on entertainment and family. With the broad range of topics this book covers you can be guaranteed that it will hit an area of struggle for you and cause you to consider how you can deal with the idols in your heart.
One of the best things about this book is how each chapter closes with a series of practical questions and then brings everything back to Jesus. Idleman does not just leave us with questions to try and muddle through on our own but makes sure that we understand that the answer to every idol we struggle with is Jesus.
This book is definitely one worth picking up.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review.
