We had a great anniversary this year. It was the first time that we had gone anywhere outside of town to celebrate. I wanted to find a place that we could drive to easily and that was not too expensive. Well, we decided to go to San Antonio over the long MLK weekend. We left Fort Worth at around 8am on Saturday morning and returned in the afternoon on Monday. I found a nice Bed and Breakfast on the Riverwalk that allowed us to walk everywhere we wanted to go. It was nice to not have to worry about driving and to simply walk around enjoying the mild (60+ degrees) weather.
The highlights of the trip were the Alamo visit and the many old churches that dot the downtown area. San Antonio is one of the rare cities outside the East Coast with buildings around three hundred years old. We also enjoyed some very good Mexican food for the two dinners that we ate there.
The only downer in the whole weekend was my allergies and itchy eyes. We found out after we got back that I actually had pinkeye. I’m not sure how I got it, but the doctor said it is spread easily so I could have picked it up anywhere. I had to deal with itchy and burning eyes through much of the weekend, but it was still a lot of fun.
