Fox News posted a story on their website this morning that really upset me. (link) Apparently, officials in Cambridge, MA have decided not to allow Boy Scout Troop 45 to set up donation boxes at polling points. The Scouts hoped to receive things like magazines and toiletries to send to our soldiers serving overseas.
There was an alleged complaint that the boxes represented a “political statement” and where therefor removed.
A political statement?!
What does that mean? I am curious how donating some small items to help make soldiers’ Christmas away from friends and family a little more bearable is somehow a political statement. The Scout troop should be commended for a great idea and the city of Cambridge scorned for their overzealous sense of political correctness and lack of sympathy for the plight of our soldiers.
I hope that this Christmas we all remember the members of our military who are serving our country. They make many sacrifices, some of which are especially difficult around the holidays. Cambridge, MA should reverse their ruling and allow the Scout troop to collect donations for our soldiers. It would be small way that people could say, “Thanks, we remember.”

While the collection is a great idea, I don’t see how it relates to voting. It’s really cleaner to keep two really entirely different activities (voting and charity) distinct. Otherwise, why not open it up to any charity or cause?

It is very simple ….This is Cambridge at it’s best …Trying to please everyone ….I am sure that the complaint came from just one person and the wonderful leaders of this Republic decided that the majority would have to suffer to placate the minority ….If you don’t believe me then read the comments of our so called Mayor in the Chronicle
They should have let the kids do this, after all some of these kids in Iraq fighting may not even come home. Did they think about that? They are in a dangerous situation. Political correctness has nothing to do with caring and being a good human being I guess. Forget political correctness. Its useless,

They should have let the troops do this, these boys and men in Iraq, some of them will not come home, did this person or persons who decided not to do this, think about that? Or the despair these people might feel over there. They will have a tough time and I am sure there is nothing wonderful about being at war. So they would rather for their own selfish reasons, just worry about how it seems to them, than rather if it helps another human being. Political correctness is a bunch of bull.
